Jere Bagenstose Out On Bail After 5 Months

(Harrisburg, PA) -- An Adams County man who is accused of killing his wife nearly 40 years ago is now free on bond after spending five months in jail. A Lancaster County judge approved bail for defendant Jere Bagenstose Tuesday. Jere Bagenstose, who is 68, was arrested in December by state police and charged with the murder of his estranged wife, Maryanne. She disappeared from her Pequea [[ Peckway ]] Township home in 1984 and has never been found. Though investigators say they've long believed Bangenstose killed his wife, he wasn't arrested until December of last year. D-A Heather Adams says advances in training and changes to the laws regarding no-body investigations affected her decision to charge him. No further court dates in the case have been scheduled as of Thursday.
